This is the fast that I choose: To share your bread with the hungry and bring the homeless poor into your house. – Isaiah 58:7
Café On Vine gratefully receives financial support from individuals, churches, groups, businesses and organizations, including:
In addition to financial support, nearly all of the food that the Café serves is donated from a wide variety of donors throughout the Quad Cities area. We could not achieve our mission without the generosity of our many friends and partners.
Whether you have a lot or a little time to give, there are many volunteer opportunities for you to help with at the café.
We graciously accept food and cash donations. To see the needs of the Café and how you can help, visit our Donation page.

Café on Vine provides free, nutritious meals to the hungry in our community 365 days each year. We serve breakfast and lunch daily Monday through Friday, a lunch on Saturday and an evening meal on Sunday. Café on Vine is the only meal site in the Quad Cities to do so.
Originally, the Café was part of the Thomas Merton House, Inc. (est. 1976) which provided housing for volunteers working with the poor in downtown Davenport. Over time, Thomas Merton House became more or less an incubator for meaningful projects to address the needs of vulnerable populations. The meal program was one of those projects and in 2007 was renamed Café on Vine. Since that time, the Café has served more than 735,000 meals, with an average of 50,000 meals annually!
Anyone seeking a meal is served with dignity and privacy, no questions asked.
Café on Vine appreciates all those who are willing to help carry out the mission of serving people in need with dignity and privacy.
I really appreciate what Café On Vine does for our community! My family and I have volunteered on multiple occasions and always look forward to returning. We are constantly amazed at how much work goes on behind the scenes and how dedicated the staff is at pulling it all together.
I was honored to serve alongside the Café On Vine team to help prepare and plate meals for those in need. I was very impressed with their setup and organization, which allows them to prepare and serve a lot of meals quickly and efficiently. The work they are doing is certainly making an impact in the community!
I've been volunteering at the Café for a year. Just love it! I'm a morning person and serving breakfast on Mondays is a great way to start my week. I'm always amazed of the number of guests we service in 45 minutes. The need is great, and I am honored to be serving this mission!
Café can be a lot of work, but it is always fun. You can't help but be impressed by the enormous number of people who happily donate their time preparing, delivering meals, and cleaning up. You Tube “The Big Chill” kitchen clean up/dance scene and you will have an idea of the good vibe we experience…realize it is just that - an opportunity. Seize it! Also, remember the R's - Recognition and Respect. “I see you” and “I will listen to you” enhances connections with Café guests. The emotional, spiritual return on volunteering investments is tremendous.
A few years ago I realized I wasn't really doing anything directly or consistently to serve the needs of the poor in our community. I decided to start volunteering once a week for the breakfast shift. I now look forward to it every week! It is such a small thing to do, but such an important thing for those who wake up with nothing to eat.
